Senior Structural Engineer (Basingstoke, Hampshire) Full or Part-Time
Modulus is a well-established structural engineering practice and we have a new opportunity for a recently chartered engineer to support the Technical Director in developing the business through expansion of our existing Basingstoke office or establishing a new office in the south-east. We are looking for someone with experience of refurbishing small building structures, with experience of working with steel, concrete timber and masonry. The role can be full or part-time and we have flexible working arrangements.

Modulus primarily provides tailored structural engineering to suit the needs of its clients in a cost-effective manner. Modulus offers a great opportunity for engineers to develop their engineering skills and to progress to being Chartered and beyond. Other key areas of business include: provision of training courses, authoring publications and concrete expertise. The post-holder is expected to use their technical knowledge to deliver structural engineering services to clients.
What you will be responsible for:

Undertaking the structural design for new buildings, extensions and alterations to existing properties

Investigating and evaluating structural conditions in existing properties and writing reports
-
Developing graduate engineers
-
Working with the Technical Director to manage and develop the business

Establishing strong working relationships with local architects, surveyors and builder

Preparing fee proposals
-
Checking of projects
-
Providing excellent levels of customer service
The skills we are looking for:
Essential experience
The following skills are considered essential to the performance of the role:

Chartered (or near chartered) structural engineer
-
Experience in the design of structural elements using concrete, steel, timber and masonry
-
Experience in the design of refurbishment of, or alterations to, existing buildings
-
Ability to conceive the structural arrangements for proposed projects
-
Full driving licence
-
Be able to, for example, access loft spaces, lift carpets or make small openings to expose structural elements in domestic properties (or other similar investigative work)
-
Excellent drawing skills
-
Good writing skills
-
Ability to prepare and confidently deliver written reports
-
Ability to take responsibility
-
Ability to work either in a team or individually

Ability to use desktop publishing software
-
Experience in using spreadsheets
-
Ability to use CAD software
Desirable experience
The following skills are considered to be desirable for the performance of the role

Experience in structural engineering for domestic scale properties

Experience in carrying out structural surveys and assessments

Experience of drainage design

Ability to write spreadsheets to design structural elements

Knowledge of the structural Eurocodes

Clean driving licence

Be familiar with structural engineering software
